Provider review
Revolut Business
The strongest multi-currency tooling of any UK business account, and now a licensed UK bank. Whether your money is FSCS-protected still depends on which entity holds it.
Who holds your money
Revolut Bank UK Ltd, authorised by the PRA and regulated by the FCA and PRA since 11 March 2026 — but some customers are still held by Revolut Ltd, an electronic money institution, pending migration.
Deposits held with Revolut Bank UK Ltd are protected up to £120,000. Balances still held under the e-money entity are safeguarded rather than FSCS-protected. Check in-app which applies to you.
Verify the firm reference number on the FCA Financial Services Register before relying on this.
Scorecard
Seven criteria, each weighted. Every score below says what drove it.
Below the size threshold for the CMA-mandated survey, so there is no independent service data. This score rests on public review platforms alone and should carry less weight than a surveyed provider’s.
Expense management, spend controls, corporate cards and bulk payments. Built to be a business account, not just a payment rail.
A full UK banking licence was granted on 11 March 2026, so deposits at Revolut Bank UK Ltd are FSCS-protected to £120,000 on a standalone licence. Marked down only because migration from the older e-money entity was phased — check in-app which entity holds your balance.
No free tier at all. The cheapest year is £120, against £0 at Monzo, Starling or Mettle.
0.00% on the free tier, 2.15% at the top — but reaching it costs £240 a year, so the net return on £25,000 is £298.
Excellent currency movement, but no cash deposits and no cheques whatsoever.
The most accommodating here on ownership structure, including overseas directors.
Weighted total 3.6 / 5. Weightings published on how we rate.
Service quality evidence
This provider is not included in the CMA's independent business banking survey, which covers the 17 largest business current account providers. Its service score is drawn from public review platforms only, which is a weaker evidence base than a regulator-mandated survey.
Interest on balances
Verified from provider site| Rate on the free tier | — |

Savings start on Grow: up to 2.15% AER (£500k limit), 2.65% on Scale, 3.3% on Enterprise. Nothing on Basic, and there is no free plan at all. Reaching 2.15% means Grow at £30/mth rather than Basic at £10, so £240 a year of extra subscription before you earn a penny. Verified against revolut.com/business/savings, 4 August 2026.
Affiliate note
Where we hold a commercial arrangement with a provider, this box says so and every link on the page is marked. Commission never affects the score or the ranking.
Fees are checked against the provider’s published tariff. If a page has not been re-checked within 60 days, it says so at the top.
The verdict
For a UK business that operates in more than one currency, Revolut is not really in competition with the other accounts on this site. Holding balances in multiple currencies, receiving local account details in several markets, and converting at interbank rates within a monthly allowance are things Starling and Monzo do partially or not at all.
The regulatory picture changed materially in March 2026, when the Prudential Regulation Authority lifted the restrictions on Revolut's banking licence and Revolut Bank UK Ltd launched. Eligible deposits held with the bank entity now carry the same statutory FSCS protection as Monzo or Barclays — a genuine upgrade on the previous e-money safeguarding arrangement.
The complication is that migration has been phased. Customers have been moved to the bank entity in batches, and new sign-ups after the launch date could still be onboarded onto the older e-money entity while the rollout scaled. This is why we show a 'check your entity' status rather than a clean FSCS badge: the answer is customer-specific, and you should verify it in the app rather than infer it from a press release.
Two other constraints matter. There is no free tier — the entry plan carries a monthly fee, which is unusual in a market where three strong accounts cost nothing. And cash deposits are not supported at all, which rules Revolut out as a primary account for any business handling notes and coins.
Who it suits
- Businesses invoicing or paying in multiple currencies, where the tooling genuinely earns its fee.
- Companies with international founders, where eligibility is broader than at Monzo or Mettle.
- Teams needing expense management and granular permissions on the higher plans.
Who should look elsewhere
- Any cash-handling business. Cash deposits are not supported at all.
- UK-only businesses watching costs. There is no free tier; Starling and Mettle cost nothing.
- Anyone who needs certainty on protection today without checking the app first.
Every tier, priced
What each plan includes, and what the step up actually costs over a year.

| GrowLarger FX and transfer allowances, team features, accounting integrations, expense management. | £30 | £360 |
| ScaleHigh-volume payment and FX allowances, advanced controls and approvals. | £90 | £1,080 |

The fees that are not in the headline
The monthly fee is what gets advertised. These are the charges that decide what you actually pay.
| Charge | Cost | Who it affects |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly plan fee | £10 to £90, or custom | Everyone. There is no free tier. |
| Local transfers | Monthly allowance, then per item | High-volume payers should model the allowance carefully. |
| Currency exchange | Interbank rate within allowance, margin above | The core value. Watch the allowance ceiling on lower plans. |
| Cash deposits | Not supported | Rules out retail and hospitality as a primary account. |
| Weekend FX | Additional margin typically applies | Anyone converting outside market hours. |
Applying
Application is online and generally fast. Revolut is the most accommodating of the major providers on overseas ownership, which is a large part of its appeal to companies with international founders.
You will need company details, identity verification for directors and beneficial owners, and a clear description of the business model and expected transaction flows — particularly the countries involved.
Where applications fail
- Prohibited or high-risk sectors — exclusions apply as at any regulated firm.
- High-risk jurisdictions — expect refusal where counterparties sit in sanctioned or high-risk countries.
- Unclear transaction flows — be specific about which currencies and countries you will transact in.
- Incomplete beneficial ownership — all significant owners must be identified and verified.
Alternatives worth costing
- Starling Business — Free, FSCS-protected, with flat-fee international transfers for occasional use.
- Wise Business — Often cheaper for pure cross-border payments, but safeguarded rather than FSCS-protected.
- HSBC — The serious option for importers and exporters needing trade finance.
Revolut Business questions
Is Revolut Business FSCS protected?
It depends which entity holds your account. Revolut Bank UK Ltd received full UK banking authorisation on 11 March 2026, and deposits held there are protected up to £120,000. Customers still held by Revolut Ltd, the e-money entity, are safeguarded instead. Check in the app rather than assuming.
Is Revolut a real bank in the UK now?
Yes. The PRA lifted the remaining restrictions on Revolut's banking licence on 11 March 2026 and Revolut Bank UK Ltd launched as a fully licensed UK bank, regulated by both the FCA and PRA.
Does Revolut Business have a free plan?
No. The entry plan carries a monthly fee, which is a meaningful disadvantage against Starling, Mettle and Monzo Lite, all of which are free.
Can I pay cash into Revolut Business?
No. Cash deposits are not supported, which rules the account out as a primary account for any business with counter takings.
Is Revolut good for international payments?
It has the strongest day-to-day multi-currency tooling of any UK business account — multiple currency balances, local details in several markets, and interbank conversion within a monthly allowance. For trade finance rather than payments, HSBC is the better fit.
